Ministry, medical technologists to resolve pay dispute

THE MINISTRY of Finance and Planning has agreed to have the Health Sector Pay Review Appeals Committee meet within two weeks, on the pay issue involving medical technologists.

More than 100 med-techs working at the National Transfusion Services, National Public Health Lab and the Comprehensive Health Clinic, Slipe Pen Road, Kingston, stopped working for three hours Wednesday, to protest against delays in settling their wage issues.

The main bone of contention, sources told The Gleaner, is the inability of the appeals committee to hear the med- techs' reclassification dispute following the recent resignation of the committee chairman. However, with the reinstatement of the chairman, the Ministry is now confident that the issue can be satisfactorily disposed of. The committee is expected to meet within two weeks.

The technologists, represented by the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisor Personnel (UTASP), have agreed to resume normality in the circumstances.
