THE EDITOR, Madam:I AM a student pursuing a master's degree in public sector mananagent at a university in the Dominican Republic.
I have been offered this opportunity with the funds from a scholarship donated by the European Union under the LOME 1V Convention.
Others students from across the countries of Belize, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, St. Lucia, Haiti, Grenada, St. Vincent and Suriname are also with me in this programme.
We are presently pursuing the programme in the Spanish language. It is from this shared experience that I have learned to appreciate more deeply the blessings we have in our island home.
We are blessed with a wide variety of natural resources, climate, and a beautiful landscape.
Our history of excellent international relations with countries in the Caribbean and around the world, has greatly infuenced their society, culture, music and religion. For example, the contributions made by Bob Marley and Rastafarianism.
Our leaders have contributed greatly to this legacy. I believe that as a people we will continue to develop the consciousness of our value on the world market, culture and society.
Let me encourage all well-thinking Jamaicans to be positive about our country's future.
In the long run, the success of ourselves in the world, depends on the conditions that exist at home.
I am etc.,
