Food hygiene and safety

FOOD HYGIENE Bureau Limited, located at Shop 4, 11 Ardenne Road, is the Caribbean regional testing centre for the National Food Safety Professional Registry, based in Florida. They provide food safety training from level one to level four, including HACCP, risk assessments, audits and a range of consultancy services.

According to Manager, Marva Hewitt, "We also review plans for food businesses and advise them whether their plans will comply to statuary requirements."

Their extensive range of services includes staging conferences and workshops to inform and educate interested parties on global issues related to food safety. "We offer a competence-testing certificate to managers, which is a United States qualification for food safety managers and we are the national testing centre for that as well," she added. "On passing, the food safety managers are added to the US register of Food Safety Managers."

The Food Hygiene Institute conducts classes from Monday to Friday between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30 in the afternoon. Courses are available for all levels of staff and are conducted by a team of trained professionals who are certified by the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health. The next conference to be held by the institute is an international conference on genetically modified foods. This is to take place July 6-7, 2000 at the Hilton Hotel from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Presenters from Sweden, UK, Trinidad and other Caribbean islands will share their insight and experience on this topical issue.
