AMERICAN GUESTS at Grand Lido Braco, in Trelawny, celebrated the Fourth of July holiday with all stars and stripes and a 'Miss and Mr. 4th of July' contest.
Seven male and six female contestants vied for the coveted prize of a return trip of four days and three nights for two at the resort, along with gift baskets courtesy of J. Wray and Nephew Limited.
Dawn Quick, an accountant from Virginia and Eric Haiden, a production manager from Canada, were crowned Miss and Mr. 4th of July.
"It's unbelievable... I can't believe it. This is the first time I have ever won anything, I really enjoyed entering this contest and being crowned 'Miss 4th of July' is even more exhilarating", said Dawn, who was on her first trip to Jamaica.
Eric, who said he was no stranger to winning, told The Gleaner: "It feels funny...fantastic. This is my third time to the island and second time to Braco. I always join in the games here. It always feels good to be a winner. I am looking forward to coming back", he said.
Standing against a red, white and blue decorated stage, the male contestants carried American flags while the females held red, white and blue balls. They were each asked two questions: one relating to the property and the other on international trivia, chosen randomly from a basket.
During the decision-making period the audience was serenaded by two of the hotel's social directors Garth Streete and Camielle Tulloch, who belted words from Shania Twain's popular song From This Moment.
The judges were Devon Yetman, Michelle LaPorte and Arlene Cover.
