THE EDITOR, Madam:
EARLIER THIS month I wrote a letter, which thankfully was published in The Gleaner, complaining about the National Water Commission's tardiness in providing water for residents of Nine Miles, Bullocks, Santa Hill and adjoining communities.
Well, I must inform you, that the publishing of that letter really worked, because, the very day it was published, water started flowing through the very thirsty pipes once more, after being absent for almost three months.
In fact, the residents in the communities have never seen water so powerful in their pipes for a number of years, to the extent that several have had to effect repair to leaking sections due to the force of the precious commodity.
The National Water Com--mission and its officers based in Christiana, Mandeville and May Pen, headed by Richard Eastwood and Carlton Russell must be commended for such swift reaction to the letter. However, it is rather unfortunate to know that only the publishing of such letter could get water flowing to the once 'thirsty communities'. Anyway, thanks gentlemen.
It was very nice to see the men meeting with a few residents the following week, making arrangements to have water in their area on a more regular basis. Good to learn that someone has since been appointed to monitor the once unmonitored Booster Pump at Zinc Shop. I hope such an individual will carry out the job assigned in a most efficient and effective manner. 'Water is indeed life' and the residents of the fore-mentioned communities can attest to that.
I am now calling on the NWC to remember that water is a precious commodity and whatever can be done to avoid its unnecessary waste, should be executed. Please repair the many leaking pipes along the Christiana to Spalding main road and in the community of Santa Hill.
I am, etc.,
GEORGE A. HENRY
