MPM not responsible for market's closure

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I NOTE with great concern, the recent closure of the Spanish Town Market, because of unhygienic conditions which have prevailed there for some time. Regarding this, the St. Catherine Parish Council has asked the MPM to send a team to assist in a clean-up exercise at the market.

While we have granted this request by sending a MPM team to the market on Thursday morning, I wish to state for the record, that the MPM is responsible only for the maintenance of the markets within the Corporate Area. I wish to add also, that the cleaning of gullies and drains within the Corporate Area is no longer our responsibility, but that of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

I sincerely hope this letter will assist members of the public, in determining where to go to, should a query regarding these matters arise.

I am, etc.,

ANA TREASURE

Managing Director

Metropolitan Parks &

Market Ltd.
