Art entrepreneur gets boost online

K. Patrick Byles

FOR a half century K. Patrick Byles has been a principal player in Jamaica's art world, with emphasis on graphic arts and marketing communications.

After his successful career in graphics and marketing communications K. Patrick Byles has returned to his first love. fine art.

Described by many as an 'essential' Caribbean artist K. Patrick Byles work captures the Caribbean spirit, through his bold use of colour, and subjects which include the lush tropical vegetation and vistas, Jonkanoo history, celebrations and spiritualism of the Caribbean.

What brought him to Go Jamaica's storefront?

"I am currently widening the scope of my work to the international giftware market. By using a top quality range of products from Jamaica, I intend to counter the perception of many people living off the island that we are only able to sell basic crafts, bananas, cocoa and music.

"I will be contributing to the recognition of an off shoot of the visual arts as an important non-traditional industry playing in the multi-million giftware industry market.

"E-commerce selling my products online is part of my marketing strategy. After investigating a number of other companies I arrived at the doors of Go-Jamaica. They seemed best placed to take me to the level I want to be, at the pace I want to move and within my budget.

"I am currently only using the storefront and Go Jamaica's capabilities for branding purposes. Currently, visitors to my store are only introduced to K Patrick Byles and only get to view a 'glimpse' of my work.

"I have only been up and running for three weeks and in that time I have had a number of hits from North America. Go Jamaica 's ability to drive traffic to my store has resulted in e-mails requesting paintings for their homes and workplaces. As well as kind comments about my work.

"I would be lying if I said I had a full understanding of e-commerce and its applications. However, I refuse to let that hamper my efforts to get my project online because I know I am working with professional people to provide me with the necessary support, assistance and guidance I require.

In four to six weeks I intend to begin phase II of my project. It will include the 'hard' sell of my product. That is when I will begin operating as a storeowner, with the ability to transact payments online anytime of the night and day. It is a day I am looking forward to."

Mr. Byles is currently inviting investors and trade interests to participate in this project which is supported by a business plan, marketing plan and a professional display. If you are interested in hearing more please contact him at: cdbyles@colis.com
