Lannaman's Prep tops dance finals

Eugene Pitter, Staff Reporter

LANNAMAN'S Preparatory School were the king-pins at the JCDC dance finals held at the Ward Theatre on Tuesday. The Corporate Area school walked away with five trophies - best under 9 folk, best under 12 folk, best modern and pop dance and most outstanding junior group.

Teachers and students from Lannaman's hugged each other, counting their trophies over and over as they left the venue.

"The kids worked very hard. They love dancing. When they come on stage I was a part of what was happening. I give thanks to God. Oh I am so excited," one of the teachers told THE STAR.

Tivoli Comprehensive High School also had reason to celebrate, winning best modern dance, class four and the Kingston Optimist club trophy for the best intermediate group and a special award for folk dance.

Other winners were: Columbus Preparatory School, St. Ann for modern contemporary dance; St. Margaret's Bay All-Age School, Portland; Clonmel Primary and Junior High, St. Mary for creative folk and Excelsior High School for popular dance.

Day one of the competition was marked by excellent organisation by the JCDC. This certainly helped to make the events worth seeing.

Lannaman's Preparatory, who opened the competition, did well with a creative folk piece titled Sunday School Praise. The cheers which followed suggested that they (Lannamans) had much more in store. This was the case when they returned with the popular dance Move It.

Howard Cooke Primary looked good in their red and white outfits. If the only male member of the group of six could dance then the results may have been different.

The creative folk category provided interesting entries. Howard Cooke Primary made an impression with their African garb. But, it was Lannaman's who earned another trophy with their piece Fun and Frill

Lannaman's had to watch Columbus Primary collect the trophy for their entry "Lets Worship."

United Learning Centre Prep. School had an interesting piece Show Me Love and in the Dance Drama St. Margaret's Bay All Age School got a well deserved trophy for their entry Who Will Be The Queen

The rest of the events were colourful and creative.
