THE EDITOR, Madam:
MR. LAZARONI'S departure has delivered a staggering blow to an ailing football team. His decision to sever ties with the football programme has cast a shadow over the World Cup campaign.
As an avid supporter of the nation's football, I am angry and disappointed that he had to leave. I however hold no sympathy for the Boyz. It is their ill attitude and lack of commitment which has caused Mr. Lazaroni to skedaddle.
Why should a man of his stature be forced to sup the antics of players who should have been thankful for his expertise? What's wrong with these players? Don't they realise that going to practice haphazardly and not showing up for crucial matches can and will only add up to their own detriment.
The Reggae Boyz have lost the tenacity and zest which gave them World Cup berth in 1998. These vital components of winning will not be restored if their present attitude continues. The celebrated Reggae Boys need to do some urgent soul-searching.
If we are to bag a second World Cup berth the vision must be re-established backed by hard work, dedication and discipline.
If glory is to be had sacrifices must be made. The answer sadly does not lie in a new coach, it rests with the team. They need to don a new and positive attitude.
