Manley Monument in progress

Manley

CONSTRUCTION OF the $10-million monument to former Prime Minister and PNP leader Michael Norman Manley is on its way, says Phyllis Mitchell, Minister of State for Education and Culture.

Mrs. Mitchell told the House of Representatives yesterday that the design titled, "Touch of Equality," has been accepted and the monument is in pre-construction stage. The marble was donated by the Government of Cuba.

The estimated cost of erecting the monument is $10 million which is inclusive of all professional fees. There is a space in the National Heroes' Park, Central Kingston, designated for monuments to Prime Ministers where the monument to former Prime Minister Sir Donald Sangster is located and where the monument to Mr. Manley will be built.
