Optimist honours cop

WESTERN BUREAU:

The Optimist Club of Falmouth has honoured Corporal William Brown of the Falmouth police for outstanding service to the community.

"Every year during the month of May, a week is selected as 'Respect for Law Week' during which a policeman or woman is honoured for exemplary service to the public," said club president, Hyacinth Brown.

Corporal Brown got the nod this year, said Mrs. Brown, for his service to the Neighbourhood Watch Programme and the Police Youth Club movement in the parish.

He was formally recognised and presented with a gift package at one of the club's regular fortnightly meetings held at the Vioris Bernard Educational Centre in Trelawny's seaside capital. The ceremony witnessed primarily by club members and some police colleagues saw a gracious Corporal Brown thanking Optimists for the gesture, while acknowledging the role his colleagues played in the success of the programmes for which he was honoured.
