Sav-La-Mar fire dept needs upgrading

TREVOR BROOKS, JLP caretaker for Central Westmoreland, is requesting that the Government immediately address the deterioration of the fire department and the lack of performance in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland.

Mr. Brooks is charging that, as a result of these inadequacies, fire on May 16 destroyed a historic residence on Great Georges Street, while the fire truck without proper equipment, had to scramble unsuccessfully to find water. He also noted that, recently, another residence on East Street was similarly destroyed.

Mr. Brooks says he is calling on the Government to upgrade all fire hydrants, fire trucks, equipment and training, as too many homes and businesses throughout the nation were being destroyed, as a result of the neglect of the Fire Department and the inefficient delivery of water.

He has recommended that the management of the fire service be placed in an impartial and efficient statutory body, designed to deliver the service promptly and impartially.
