Care committee for St Bess Black River

IN A matter of weeks St. Elizabeth will have its official care committee taking care of the parish homeless and the mentally ill.

The committee, which is being organised by Mayor of Black River Daphne Holmes, will be launched on Thursday, June 8, at the Riverside Dock in Black River.

Outlining the objectives of the committee, Mrs. Holmes told The Gleaner on Thursday that the focus will be on all the communities in St. Elizabeth, also it will provide assistance in medical and hygienic care for these persons.

Persons invited to participate in the launch are from the Clergy, the Ministry of Health, community leaders, councillors and the business community. Guest speaker at the function will be Dr. Wendel Abel, national chairman of the committee for the homeless.

"I expect everyone to come out and assist with this project that will provide for the less fortunate individuals in the parish", the Mayor stressed.

She said she expects to achieve much out of this initiative, in helping to protect and care for the homeless and the mentally challenged in St. Elizabeth.
