New CD on the block

"Stitchie"

Anthea McGibbon, Staff Reporter

AFTER FOUR years he's back on the block. And this time Cleve "Stitchie" Laing sings a new song. After four years off the shelves, which include the last three years as a new convert to Christianity, Laing is releasing his own tell-tale testimony of his experience and struggles to excellence during his spiritual warfare on a CD entitled "Real Power".

Added to his usual deejaying, Laing says the songs are also presented in Reggae and "singjay" style. And of course with more vibrance which speaks to the strength he has received from his new faith.

The CD targets all audiences and offers translations of the Bible in four languages including Spanish. The lyrics to the songs, all written by Laing, are accessible in English and Patois. Computer buffs will be able to access screen savers, do Bible study, view a video clip of Stitchie performing in Switzerland, and read up on the road to salvation, all for the same price as any other CD. "It's not about the money, it's about winning souls for Christ," Stitchie says.

Having been given some amount of airplay in The United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, the CD to be released on Tuesday, will be officially launched on June 6.

Other performers on the CD are guitarist/musical director Fitzroy Bennet; drummer/percussion Devon Richardson; bass player Errington Case; keyboardists Craig McDonald and Sheldon Bernard. Back-up singers include the Glad Tidings Open Bible "Angelics", Joy Beaggon, Tamara Clarke. Engineers include Barrington O'Hara and art director is Andrew Gray.

Laing who has just returned from performing at the largest Latin Convention "Expolit 2000" in Radisson, Miami was also one of the main performers at last weekend's "Choices" rally, hosted by Fellowship Tabernacle.
