Old Road Basic School receives financial assistance

STUDENTS, TEACHERS and Parents of the Old Road Basic School in Withorn, Westmoreland are to benefit from a J$2.2 million contract which was signed earlier this month to facilitate the completion of the school.

Upon completion of the project, the school will have three classrooms, equipped with desks and chairs for the children, teacher' tables and chairs, as well as chalkboards and storage cupboards. The school will also have a kitchen, a storeroom, complete with a gas stove and refrigerator. Improved sanitation facilities will also be provided.

In his address to the residents of Withorn District, Mr. Wesley Van Riel, Head of Planning at the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), had high praises for the unity in the community as the residents worked together to ensure the completion of the only basic school in the district.

The funds were made available through the World Bank and the contractor is South-East St. Elizabeth Construc-tion Co. Ltd.
