Get in Feanny's Rhythm
Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer
THE $625,000 She's On Wheels Trophy over 1100 metres, race two in the National Gas Stations' Fillies and Mares Championship series, is the feature event at Caymanas Park today. Post time is 12 noon.
A grade one event, the She's On Wheels Trophy has attracted six starters, including LET'S GO DANCIN who romped race one in the series, the Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy over the circular nine course on March 11.
LET'S GO DANCIN, the series leader, will not be inconvenienced by this sprint and having caught the eye at exercise and the visor fitted for this race, should make a brave bid.
True, the American bred four-year-old filly is yet to win at a distance under 1400 metres. But she definitely has the pace to race in touch of the genuine sprinters, GAILY DECORATED, RHYTHM OF MY HEART and CALL COLLECT, then make a race of it up the lane.
She looks nicely off at the scales with 53.3kg and although having run below expectations behind CRUSADER'S SHIELD in the Lady Geeta Trophy over 1200 metres on April 29 when slowly into stride, she can rebound from this convenient mark.
Many-time champion Philip Feanny holds a strong hand with both LET'S GO DANCIN and the vastly improved RHYTHM OF MY HEART, fresh from last Saturday's decisive win in the Lotto Sprint over the distance.
There was a lot to like about the way RHYTHM OF MY HEART dug in from early in the straight to catch and beat long-time leader GAILY DECORATED by two lengths.
The Errol Waugh-trained GAILY DECORATED renews rivalry on 3.0kg better terms and it should be a lot closer between them today. In fairness to GAILY DECORATED, the American bred five-year-old mare was having her first outing in over two months and will have stripped fitter for this race. Although heading the handicaps with 57.0kg, she will not go down easily.
Others such as LADY BANGALORE and SOLID IMPACT should find the distance on the sharp side, while CALL COLLECT who won the Courtney Walsh Trophy over 1300 metres when last raced on April 8, clearly has extra to find against this lot.
The issue should be decided among RHYTHM OF MY HEART, GAILY DECORATED and LET'S GO DANCIN. It should be close among them, but RHYTHM OF MY HEART has become so genuine and consistent a performer that she catches my fancy over this her pet trip, especially with a bustling rider like Charles Hussey aboard.
Other form fancies on the card are ICE to catch the much improved RAJA MAHARAJA and FOREST FRESH in the first, NICK OF TIME to do likewise in the fourth where the fleet-footed pair of MISS GOTHAM CITY and CHOCOLATE THUNDER are twin dangers; LEGAL DECISION to outstay rivals in the eighth, the unbeaten NORMAN BATMAN to extend his streak at the expense of DOCTOR RUTH and WINNING WAYS and STANDING ALONE in the 9th and WILD MEDIC to catch MR. VIGOROUS, MISSISSIPPI MARCH and PRINCESS ZARA in the closing one mile race.
