'Green Expo' to focus on natural heritage

THE JAMAICA Conservation and Development Trust will again be staging 'Green Expo', an environmental exposition, set for the National Arena, from June 9 to 11.

According to the co-ordinator of the expo, Rashida Knight: "The issue of preserving Jamaica's natural heritage is more critical than ever. It is essential that we broaden our focus and enlist the involvement of the entire society in working to preserve the integrity and enhance the quality of our natural resources."

The popular Nature Trail will be returning, as will the Children's Corner and Alternative Market Bazaar. Other features will be a Virtual Reality Environmental Experience, featuring interactive multi-media displays on various related topics.

A special inaugural feature of 'Green Expo' will be an International Environmental Technology Trade Show. It is intended that overseas companies involved in the business of waste management, environmental manufacturing and other related industries put on displays and have business-matching sessions with local interests.

The first 'Green Expo' was staged in 1996, as a progression from a number of mini-expos staged by the JCDT at various venues, principally as part of 'Environmental Awareness Week'.

In 1998, about 15,000 persons attended the expo.
