Keri, a rising star

Andrew Clunis, Freelance Writer

Keri

THINGS ARE looking up for rising star Keri. After making her debut several years ago with the VP Records pressed, self-produced effort Shine, she has been gaining recognition as a creative artiste.

She spent some time writing and now the fruits of her labour are being shown through the release of a CD on Barry O'Hare's X-Rated label.

The CD contains two songs, which have been getting prime time attention on most radio stations in Jamaica. The songs titled Mr. DJ and Don't Go, were both written by Keri and produced by O'Hare. The CD is being distributed by Penthouse Records.

"I have been very encouraged by the performance of this CD so far. Although there are only two songs on it, people have been buying it up. It is really the prelude to my album and was sent out there to test the waters. I am very happy with the reports so far. I believe the first 500 copies went in a matter of days," she said.

While she continues to work in select locations on the North Coast, Keri said the major obstacle she faces in her career these days is a lack of good shows.

"In terms of recording, I am doing very well, but I am not getting enough bookings for live shows," said the graduate of Frome Technical High School.

A few weeks ago she was special guest on TVJ's 'Morning Time' programme. She has also appeared several times on Dermot Hussey's 'Global Beat' on RJR and has been on several major stage shows.

"Jamaica and the world will be hearing a lot more about me. I believe that since Diana King, a Jamaican female artiste has not really come along who has a certain level of dominance. I intend to change that," said the 24-year-old.
