Walker, Clarke shine at KC meet

NATIONAL JUNIOR representatives, Melaine Walker of St.Jago High and Ryan Clarke of Kingston College, produced very good times to highlight the third Youngster Goldsmith Hurdles and Field Events Classic at Kingston College on Saturday.

Walker won the Class 2 100 metre hurdles final in a scorching 13.8 seconds while Clarke clocked 51.9 seconds.

Manchester High's Sherone Simpson and Sheree Francis of Vere both clocked 15.0 to place second and third respectively in the girls Class 2 event.

In the 400 metres hurdles demolished his nearest rival by over 30 metres in his heat. Calabar's Ricardo Melbourne who won heat 2 clocked 54.3 to record the next best time ahead of heat 1 winner David Coombs of JC (56.0)

Meanwhile Clarke's teammate Orville Byfield and St.Jago High's Andrea Bliss were double winners.

Byfield heaved 16.20 metres on his first attempt to capture the boy's Class 1 shot putt ahead of Oliver Grey of Mannings (15.03m) and D.Smith of Munro College (14.82).

Byfield later captured the discus by hurling a creditable 49.61 metres, edging Calabar's Maurice Smith (49.34m) and Smith of Munro College (43.33m).

Bliss struggled in the early stages of the girl's Class 1 100m hurdles final but clocked 14.0 seconds to clipped St. Andrew High's charging Toni-Ann Doyley. Doyley clocked 14.3.

Bliss took the 400 metre hurdles Open in 62.2 seconds. Tanisha Guthrie (64.2) and Karen Stewart (64.5), both from St. Jago, recorded the next two best times.

Other impressive performances among the females came from Kameisha Marshall of Mannings who won the Class 2 discus final with a throw of 34.28 metres, Annakaye Campbell of St. Andrew High who won the Class 3 high jump final with a leap of 1.63 metres and Vere's Keisha Brown who won the Class 3 80 metre hurdles final in 11.8.

Among the boys Dinthill Technical's Ricardo Coleman won the boy's Class 1 long jump final with a leap of 7.15 metres, KC's Dwayne Robinson won the Class 1 110 metres hurdles in 14.4 and St. Jago's Orlando Barnett won the Class 2 110m hurdles in 14.7.
