Lucas whip Police
LUCAS HAD the best possible start to the defence of their Rothmans Surrey Senior Cup title. Yesterday they easily defeated Police by seven wickets at Elletson Road Sports Complex.
Scores: Police 207 & 150; Lucas 290 for three & 70 for three.
Allrounder Gareth Breese followed up his seven-wicket haul on Saturday taking five wickets as Police crumbled in their second innings leaving the defending champions with the mere formality of scoring 68 runs for victory after tea yesterday.
Resuming on their overnight 208 for three, champions Lucas added a further 82 runs for the lost of Ryan Wellington caught by Leonard Coley off former Jamaica pacer Denville McKenzie for 20 after he had added only one run to his overnight score at 217 for four and Gareth Breese who had added nine runs to his overnight four before he went leg-before to former Jamaica pacer Rohan Belight for 13 with the score at 225 for five.
Police batted badly again in their second innings as they were routed for another paltry score, after facing 60.1 overs with only Dillon Ebanks 53, Dixieth Palmer 22, Leonard Coley 18 and Junior Forbes 13 offering any form of resistance against Breese who captured five for 53 and a match haul of 12 for 135.
When Lucas batted a second time, Delroy Morgan was left unbeaten on 38, while Ryan Wellington was not out on one.
