Wadadah in JNBS semis

WADADAH ENDED Boys' Town's fairytale run in the Jamaica National Building Society Federation Cup KO, by eliminating them 1-0 at Harbour View's Mini Stadium yesterday.

An ugly incident started by a spectator who hit Boys' Town's midfielder Marvin Morgan with an object marred the event. Morgan retaliated by picking up an object and hurling it back at the spectator in the stand. Then hordes of his team's supporters joined the action and pelted and kicked the offender several times, before police restrained the crowd and escorted the man from the ground.

Full back Rodney Barr scored the winner at the 27th minute, which sent the Montegonians into a semi-final clash against defending champions Tivoli Gardens. It will be played on March 5, when A leaguers Constant Spring and Hazard United will also meet in the other semi-final.

Boys' Town, who turned back NPL giants Harbour View and Waterhouse respectively in their previous encounters, were the last remaining Division One team in the competition.

They started badly and hardly threatened Wadadah's goal in the first 45 minutes.

Wadadah looked a lot more organised in attack in that period but apart from the goal, their best efforts at scoring were two firm drives from outside the penalty area.

The game improved in the second half as Boys' Town stepped up their play. For most of the early part, they pressed but were guilty of passing too much around the goal area. As time shortened they threw more personnel into attack and should have equalised at the 33rd when Under-17 national Anthony Bennett, who came on as a sub, crashed a shot against the bar after goalkeeper Shawn Grant had missed a cross and left him with an open goal.
