Ninjaman gets one-year sentence
Ninjaman
DESMOND BALLENTINE, the deejay who is popularly known as Ninjaman,
was yesterday sentenced in the Gun Court to 12 months imprisonment for
illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Ballentine, 33, pleaded guilty last month to the charges and sentencing was
put off by Mr. Justice Smith until yesterday.
The facts of the case were that in 1996 the police saw Ballentine in
Cassava Piece, near Constant Spring, St. Andrew, with a pistol, which had
two rounds of ammunition. He was taken into custody and arrested and
charged. He was offered bail, but he absconded and was held in March this
year.
Ballentine was represented by Norma Linton, Q.C.
