THE GLEANER'S weekly Profiles in Medicine page has been adjudged the best health page in the region.

The announcement was made at the seventh annual Caribbean Media Awards ceremony held at the Accra Beach Hotel in Barbados last Friday, where several other awards were handed out for excellence in health journalism.

Editor in Chief of The Gleaner, Wyvolyn Gager, accepted the Pan American Health Organisation Award on behalf of The Gleaner last Friday night. It includes a plaque, cash incentive and an airline ticket.

The Caribbean Media Awards aim to increase the awareness of health and environmental issues and influence the adoption of healthy lifestyles in the Caribbean region.

Awards were also presented to Irie FM Radio, CVM Television, the Barbados Advocate and the Barbados Nation newspapers and the St. Lucia Government Information Service.
