Dennis Brown is dead

  • Cardiac arrest at UHWI

    Dennis BrownDENNIS BROWN, hailed as the "Crown Prince of Reggae" in deference to Bob Marley's kingly rating, died at the University Hospital in Kingston this morning.

    A spokesman for Brown's camp said the 42-year-old entertainer had been ailing for several weeks, and his condition worsened last night when he was rushed to hospital.

  • Wage dispute protest cuts street patrols

    POLICE SERVICES, especially street patrols, were crippled across much of the Corporate Area yesterday, as many members of the constabulary called in sick in protest against the Government's stance on its wage dispute with the Force.

    'Lift Up Jamaica' project begins today


    THE $2.5 BILLION 'Lift Up Jamaica' programme announced by Prime Minister P.J. Patterson in his Budget presentation in May begins today with the training of prospective workers by the HEART Trust/NTA.

    Persons who have been recruited for two pilot projects in the Corporate Area will be the first to begin the training programme.

    Grange pushes Spanish Town restoration

    OPPOSITION SPOKESPERSON on Social Development and Welfare and Member of Parlia-ment for Central St. Catherine, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, has called on the Government to establish a Spanish Town Restoration Company (STRC), to undertake the responsibility of transforming the old capital into a heritage site.

    Ms. Grange who was making her contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, said: "The country can reap untold wealth from a steady development of the project as ...heritage tourism is a solid earner of foreign exchange."
